The renter and the driver must present a valid driver's license and valid passport upon pick-up of the vehicle.
Drivers must have either (1) or (2) of the following to drive in Japan:
(1) An international driving permit (IDP)
An IDP issued by signatory countries in a format determined by the 1949 Geneva Convention is the ONLY valid IDP in Japan. *IDP is valid for up to 1 year from the date of issue, or from the date of entry into Japan, whichever is shorter. **If you are registered in Basic Resident Registry and re-entering Japan after staying overseas less than 3 months, you may not drive with your IDP.

International driving permits (IDP) that are INVALID to drive in Japan:
- IDP on other conventions or treaties, including the Paris Convention (1926), Washington Convention (1943) and Vienna Convention (1968) - IDP issued by countries and regions that are signatory to the Geneva Convention, but in a format according to the Vienna Convention. - IDP issued by authorized bodies in countries and regions that are signatory to the Geneva Convention, but in a very different format (e.g. in a card format, or digital copy). - IDP issued by bodies that are not authorized to do so. In the United States, only the AAA and AATA are authorized to issue international driving permits.
(2) For Drivers from Switzerland / Germany / France / Belgium / Monaco / Taiwan: A valid national driver's license AND an official Japanese translation.
The Japanese translation is only valid if issued by the relevant embassy or consulate in Japan, or by the Japan Automobile Federation. In Taiwan the translation must be issued by the Japan Automobile Federation or the East Asia Relations Commission.

Important: Photocopies, digital licenses, Learner's Permits, and driver's licenses with driving restrictions will not be accepted.
Chinese driving licenses are not accepted.
In Japan, the following rules apply for the minimum age and possession of a driver's license:

The following credit cards are accepted: all credit cards from internationally recognised credit card companies - such as American Express, Mastercard, Visa, Diners Club, JCB, UnionPay. We do not accept any prepaid cards or debit cards (Visa Electron). The renter must be the owner of the indicated credit card.
Sixt CarExpress Servicecard (Advantage Circle) is only accepted in combination with a valid Credit Card.
Please note, that payments with credit card may require the PIN of the credit card.
No advance charge approval is obtained for the chosen means of payment as a security.
When booking at a prepaid rate, the payment will be charged along with the total rental price (incl. booked extras and charges) prior to the rental. The driver and mode of payment shall be finalised at the time of reservation and cannot be changed. The confirmed credit card should be valid and available for presentation on collection of the vehicle. All extra costs that occur during the car rental will be charged to this credit card. A refund shall not be issued for non-collection, vehicle being collected late or returned early.
Changing Booking A prepaid booking can be changed up to 48 hours before the start of the rental (depending on availability) in return for a booking modification fee of 2200,00 JPY. Any payment already made towards the rental will not be refunded; nor shall any differential amount be refunded if this modification leads to a lesser rental cost. Any changes made to a prepaid reservation may impact the rental rate. A change from a prepaid rate to a non-prepaid rate is not possible.
Cancellation
A booking can be cancelled before the rental begins. In the event of cancellation, the payment in advance already made towards the rental shall be paid back subject to a cancellation charge, which will be withheld and shall be in the amount of the rental charge ( including any extras and charges) for a maximum of 3 rental days. Cancellations or changes made within 24 hours of booking can be completed free of charge, provided the scheduled pick-up time is more than 48 hours away.
No-show In the event that the booked vehicle is not collected or not collected at the agreed time the rental charge already paid shall be withheld in full.
Protection coverage for the vehicle rented includes Third Party Liability with unlimited cover for personal injuries and material damages.
All rates are inclusive of LDW.
Loss damage waiver (incl. theft protection) removes the drivers responsibility to a part of the vehicle in case of damage or theft.
If Loss Damage Waiver LDW is accepted, customer is only responsible for the following amounts: maximum 150,000 JPY
If LDW is already included in the rates, the renter can choose Loss damage waiver (including Theft Protection) with reduced excess to reduce the Non-Waiverable Responsibility.
If Loss damage waiver (including Theft Protection) with reduced excess is accepted, customer is only responsible for the following amounts: maximum 50,000 JPY
If LDW is already included in the rates, the renter can choose Super Top Cover LDW to eliminate the Non-Waiverable Responsibility.
If Super Top Cover LDW is accepted, customer is only responsible for the following amounts: 0.00 JPY.
Non-Operation Charges(NOC)
In the event of the rental cars accident, theft, breakdown, defacement and/or other problems on account of any reason not attributable to our company, should it becomes necessary to carry out repairs, cleaning and/or other tasks for the car, the following fees will be charged to you as part of compensation for business during the time of the repairs, cleaning, and/or other tasks. (The NOC system will also be applied to in-vehicle equipment damage, holes burned in seats, etc.) Note: The NOC system will be applied to you even when you accept the Top Cover LDW.
The vehicle transportation fee (to a factory specified by our company) will be covered up to 150,000 JPY (tax included), and you will be responsible for paying any portion in excess of that amount.
Attention
Excluded from the protection is the use of the vehicle for the transport of dangerous goods. All protection as part of the rental contract will become void, in particular, if an unauthorized driver has used the vehicle or if the driver of the vehicle does not possess the required driver's license at the time of the event giving rise to claim. When an accident happens, the renter need to call ORIX call center: From mobile phone: + 81-92-285-9603 From other than mobile phone: 092-285-9603 If the renter does not follow the predetermined procedures, such as reporting to the police and to our company, the insurance and compensation system will not be applied.
Cross Border Rentals are not allowed.
In case of offence against Cross Border & Territorial Restrictions all protections lose their validity.
Accessories are bookable without obligation and subject to availability.
One-way rentals within Sixt locations in Japan are allowed under conditions depending on tariff.
International One-Way Rentals are not allowed.
In the case of unannounced and unauthorised one-way rentals, we reserve the right to charge an additional fee.
Baby seats, child seats and booster seats are available subject to a fee.
Navigation systems are available subject to a fee.
No Additional Driver Surcharge applies.
All vehicles are supplied with a full tank of fuel and should be refilled prior to return to Sixt, otherwise the current prices per litre of petrol or diesel will be charged in addition to a refuelling fee.
If desired, the vehicle will be refuled according to currently available conditions after returning it to the station.
No Delivery/Collection Service is offered.
Winter tires are available at a suitable fee.
Four-Wheel Drive is available subject to a fee.
All vehicles are equipped with an electronic toll device. This service allows automatic payment of all fees due for passing through any electronic toll barrier. ETC highway cards are not equipped, the renter needs to bring an own card or rent it at the branch. (1 rental=550 JPY. Availability is limited.) Subscription is made at the counter at the beginning of the rental (pick up). After you return to the branch, we charge highway tolls with cash or credit card.
No Premium Location Fee for rentals at airport and train stations applies.
The customer is obliged of informing Sixt about any parking and traffic violations. By failing to do so, an administration fee will apply.
The renter is liable for payment of all traffic/parking fines occurring during the rental.
If the renter has a traffic/parking fine during the rental the renter will be charged an Administration Fee together with the first settlement-proposition.
All rates are inclusive of VAT (if VAT incurs). For corporate customers with individual agreements alternative prices and regulations can apply.
